about

Produced by Oliver Ignatius at Holy Fang

Season of the Fly is the new record from cult producer and rabble rouser Oliver Ignatius. Recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown and while Oliver was undergoing ketamine therapy trials for treatment resistant depression, Season of the Fly is 5 sad songs sung happily - or is that happy songs, sung sadly? It is a reflection of its times and of the circumstances under which it was made. Leading off with the psychedelic soul stomper “Right Off the Dirt,” a collaboration with rising NYC singer-songwriter Arsun Sorrenti (whose band soundtracks the current YSL campaign), the record settles into more wistful territory with “No Way Home,” Oliver’s haunting collaboration with Canadian gothic-folk-pop sensation Flower Face. “Radical Chic” is the indent in the middle, an absolute climactic throw-down with Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins) on stampeding drums and Jacob Sunshine on teeth melting lead guitar. “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” is a sincere cover from Jesus Christ Superstar (which Oliver maintains is “the most stirring and humanistic re-telling of the Christ story”), and “So Sad” is a swooningly surreal catchy fade out featuring L.U.N.A. on guest vocals. Put it all together and you’ve got Season of the Fly: right off the dirt, coming at you with all the worms and the flowers. See you on the underground!
