Debris (featuring Lola Kirke)

by Oliver Ignatius

/

about

I grew up the child of expatriate journalists overseas, until my family moved to Brooklyn when I was 13. Lola Kirke was my classmate, and my first American dream girl, unfathomably glamorous, bohemian and hip. Around that time I began to write songs seriously, including some of my best. Some were about Lola, some not. Our whirlwind “romantic” dalliance as prepubescent teens lasted only a couple tumultuous weeks, after which we began the long, slow walk to being old friends. “Debris” was written during that time, and it was Lola’s idea to resurrect it for a new, collaborative version- our gift from us to you. - Oliver Ignatius
